Golden Recovery

After a sweaty workout, I am usually craving fluids and food. The fastest way to get nutrition in is by drinking it – usually with a post-workout green monster or protein shake. But after EVERY intense workout, I start with a recovery drink. Usually Vega Sport Recovery Accelerator stirred into a 50/50 water and coconut water mix for the added electrolytes. Last week, after a particularly intense set of 800 m speed intervals, I decided to use up some fresh grapefruit juice and blend up a recovery smoothie. Sometimes there is nothing better than a frosty shake on the living room floor because your legs are jelly, you’re covered in sweat and  are slowly coming off an endorphin high.

The easy digestible carbs from the fruit combined with a little protein helps restore glycogen levels. The coconut water replenishes electrolytes. And the ginger and turmeric help reduce inflammation. Combined together, this is a perfectly sweet and spicy way to cool down from a run and speed up recovery.
