Peach Ginger Sangria

standard May 27, 2015 Leave a response

Despite the flooding rain and cancelled Memorial Day plans, this weekend turned out to be a pretty fun adventure. And spending a torrential rainstorm under a semi-enclosed patio at a winery in Hill Country reminded me that anything can become an adventure. And any adventure goes well with wine.

This sangria is super simple, in flavor, in cost, and in preparation. Perfect for a humid outdoor cookout or a dreary rainy day pick me up. The one rule is that you must make it with vinho verde. This $5 bottle is by far my favorite summer wine. Light, crisp, and just a little bubbly, it is a classic sangria starter.

Here’s to drier days ahead!

Cherry Lime Recovery Frosty

standard January 28, 2015 Leave a response

There is nothing better after a race than a frosty cold, fruity drink. But before you go celebrating with a round of mimosas, it’s always a good idea to replenish the electrolytes and carbs your body just burned off. And slowly add some protein for a little muscle recovery. This sweet frosty is the perfect mix of all three, a must-have post-race treat.

Grapefruit Ginger Smoothie

standard January 14, 2015 Leave a response

There is nothing worse than being fine one day and completely miserable the next. Why do crazy winter colds sneak up on you so fast? There was nothing I wanted today except hot lemon cayenne tea and frosty citrus smoothies. A little contradictory, I know.

One of my favorite cold-busting smoothies is this simple one. I took the flavors and added a boost of vitamin C from the grapefruit and carrot and a little extra electrolytes and hydration from the coconut water. Ginger, hemp, and rooibos round out the powerhouse nutrients to get this cold gone FAST.
